There are so many things we've become desensitized to wether it be the "instagram model," the outlandish nude photo, the next product review in beauty; all of it flying through our visual atmosphere on a daily basis, none of it adding anything to our lives. I'm just as guilty as the next person; however, I decided this year I would try something different, I would do my very best to make meaningful decisions, to put my money where my mouth is. This isn't some street side brawl, this is the conscious decision to take control over my role in consumerism, my role in my community, and my role as a knowledgable woman.
Becoming A Smart Consumer
I use all the social media platforms just like everyone else, and its still a work in progress, but everyday I've tried to eliminate products or brands that I don't support, or that don't support ideals that are important to me. It took a long time for me to actually research the companies and brands that I was using, and come to conclusions about whether or not they fit into my moral compass, most times, equating to spending a little more money and time, but creating a much happier me, a me that wants to share my knowledge and share these new and upcoming brands and their visions.
Let's be honest, this past year has been filled with radical truth bombs about most of the brands and companies that we all sow into, and the only way we can really make our voices be heard, is through our coin. I sat with myself and asked myself these questions:
1) What am I unhappy with in the world?
2) Who am I supporting with my spending?
3) Who would I like to support?
4) What damage am I doing by supporting these brands?
5) How can I cut certain things out, without going broke? (real talk)
And then, after countless months of research, I started implementing these small changes:
"The world was full of false hopes and crushed dreams, until her spirit got hold of her hands."
